Prayer Shawl Ministry

The purpose of the Prayer Shawl Ministry is to bring comfort to those experiencing long term stress, grief or illness.  This is done through the knitting of shawls that are given to people as a physical representation of the prayers of the community of faith for these people.  When these people are feeling alone or sad or ill, they can wrap themselves in the shawls and feel surrounded by the love of God and of their brothers and sisters in Christ.

During our meetings we begin by praying that the work of our hands will be pleasing to God.  As a shawl is finished, we pray together for God’s comfort and healing for the recipient.

Over the summer, we will meet June 4, July 2 and August 6 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at the church. Beginning in September, we will resume our Wednesday evening meetings at the church from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

It is not necessary to attend the meetings to participate in the ministry.  Individuals can knit or crochet shawls and either drop them off at a shawl meeting or give them to Betsy Virnelson in the church office.  The shawls are not sold, they are gifts of love. If you are not a knitter, but would like to help, donation to the ministry to purchase yarn for shawls is always appreciated.  The cost of yarn for a shawl is between $15 and $20.
