What to Expect at Mayfield Church

Pastor ScottVisiting a new church can be a little intimidating, so we like to give people an idea of what to expect when they come to Mayfield.

When you arrive, you are greeted at the door by friendly people who can answer any questions you might have and direct you to the Worship Center or Fellowship Hall. If you have kids, they can point you to the nursery and youth area where children can play under an adult's supervision and allow you to worship.

We offer 3 services on Sunday morning: 8:00 am is a more traditional service that includes Holy Communion and organ music. At 9:30, the approach is more contemporary, with praise music, electric guitars and drums. The 11:00 service is traditional and features the chancel choir and organ music.

As you enter the Worship Center, the usher will hand you a bulletin containing upcoming events and activities plus the outline of the service, prayers, hymns, etc. Each service begins with music, followed by a prayer and announcements. We pass around a guestbook to help get acquainted with new people, please feel free to write in your name and ask any questions you might have. No one is ever expected to stand up and identify themselves.

After the announcements we have more music and prayer, followed by the message. Messages usually relate a Scripture passage to everyday life, and upcoming topics are listed on the website. After the message, we celebrate Communion at 8:00 (and at least once monthly during 9:30 and 11:00), followed by a song and the blessing. Services normally last about an hour. We practice an open Communion Table, which means that you don't have to be a member of Mayfield, or even a United Methodist to participate.

Afterward people gather in the Fellowship Hall for coffee and cookies, and children are welcome. The second Sundays of the month usually feature pancake or French toast breakfast.
